Upon the cross, we find hope

The little girl cries as the man leaves her little shack. The darkness of this world has overpowered her. At such a young age she sits there as a prostitute, sold into sex slavery as though she were a prize. Multiple Americans visit her, but none offer her any salvation. Day in and day out … Continue reading »

I don’t call myself a Muslim

Cross-posted on Purple Like Polka: I have no problem admitting that I am fascinated by early Islamic philosophy. I love reading the philosophy of Ibn Sina (Aviccena), al-Farabi, find the “rational theology” (Ilm-al-Kalam) fascinating, and find that I agree with much of what these early teachers say. I also appreciate many aspects of Islam, specifically … Continue reading »

“You can’t, but I can”

Mike Wittmer, author of Don’t Stop Believing and Heaven Is a Place on Earth, pointed out a glaring error in Peter Rollins’ – and most of the Emergent conversation’s – logic in a recently published article.  He states: Perhaps this is why, in “How (Not) to Speak of God,” Rollins declares: “When it comes to … Continue reading »

Purple Like Polka

I’ve been invited to start writing for the new site Purple Like Polka.  I encourage everyone to start going over there as two of my good friends will be posting alongside me. That site will be dedicated to handling some of the stuff I deal with here, but sometimes in a satirical way.

Introducing “The Übermensch Jr”

One of my emergent friends has started up his own site over at Übermensch Jr. He can be pretty harsh at times, but he’s well worth the read for those interested in the Emergent Movement. He’ll post here at times too.

How to make Shelby Spong look conservative

Many of the leaders in the Emergent Movement have just gotten…well…weird lately. Tony Jones, for example, has been falling further and further off the deep end. He has especially caught my attention, from posting an article from the Huffington post that mocks Rick Warren’s prayer (not that I’m a huge fan of Warren, but what … Continue reading »

We need a regressive faith

Tony Jones’ post over at beliefnet today sounds more like Shelby Spong than anything emergent. He quotes someone as saying that unless monotheism evolves it will eventually die. Thus, I take that back – Shelby Spong only said that about Christianity and was, in a weird way, closer to the truth. Jones, instead, lumps Islam, … Continue reading »

“Well that’s just un-American.”

It seems that in the latest battle of empty rhetoric between liberals and conservatives, the term, “That’s un-American” seems to be quite popular. Tom Hanks fired a barrage at supporters of California’s Prop 8, saying anyone who supports any form of discrimination is “Un-American” (I wonder how he feels about laws against Polygamy). The Mormons responded saying … Continue reading »
